Frequently Asked Questions

  • You know you need help when you can see what you have but have no clear picture of what's actually possible in retirement.

You're facing a major life transition - from growing wealth to living on it - and it requires completely different skills.

You feel like you need more from an advisor - not just general financial advice, but someone who truly understands retirement and will walk the journey with you.

Retirement planning is becoming a job - you’re spending too much time worrying about decisions, potential blind spots, and whether you’re missing something important, instead of enjoying the life you’re planning for.

  • It all starts with a conversation. Click here to begin the process.

  • We prefer long-term relationships with our clients. It lets you feel assured that you always have a trusted advocate standing with you throughout life’s many chapters. And it allows us to build a deep understanding of you in order to tailor our advice.

Our ideal clients have accumulated $2-15 million in net worth and are within three years of retirement or recently retired. But the numbers only tell part of the story.

The people who get the most value from working with us share a few characteristics: They want to use their wealth for good - whether that's creating meaningful experiences with family, supporting causes they care about, or simply living a life that matters. They're focused on creating a great life in retirement, not just managing money. They recognize that retirement planning involves both financial decisions and life decisions - and they want help with both.

They value elegant simplicity over complex strategies. They'd rather spend time planning their next adventure than managing spreadsheets. They want a partner who will handle the technical details while helping them navigate the bigger questions about purpose, relationships, and what makes life meaningful in this next chapter.

  • Three things set us apart.

    1. Retirement planning is all we do. While others juggle multiple specialties, we focus exclusively on helping people navigate the shift from growing wealth to living on it. This focus means we've seen your situation hundreds of times and know what works.

    2. We believe your life matters more than money. We work across eight pillars - only half are financial. The others (mindset, energy, passions, relationships) matter just as much. Most advisors stop at "your money will last." At your discretion, we can assist in these deeper conversations.

    3. We focus on little conversations to manage all the uncertainty in life. Retirement isn't one big decision - it's hundreds of small ones as life unfolds. Markets change, health changes, priorities shift. We’ll bring an agenda to bring up the right things at the right times. You bring anything that’s on your mind about. Together, we’ll work to ensure nothing important gets missed.

  • We're fee-only advisors - we only get paid by you, never through commissions or product sales.

Our fee is 0.75% of assets under management, with a minimum annual fee of $17,500 and a maximum of $50,000.

The fee covers all our services; retirement planning, investment management, ongoing adjustments, and keeping everything aligned with your life, ongoing little conversations , and on-demand decision making when life happens.

We expect clients to move their assets to us to oversee. To properly coordinate retirement income, tax strategies, risk management, and investment allocation, we need to see the complete picture and be able to act on it. Managing retirement with assets scattered across multiple advisors is like having three different contractors building one house.

  • Your assets are held at one of two custodians - Fidelity or Schwab. These are your accounts in your name. We're simply assigned as the advisor who manages them.

If you already have accounts at Fidelity or Schwab, we'll be added as your advisor on those existing accounts. If your assets are elsewhere, we'll help you choose which custodian makes sense for your situation and handle the paperwork to consolidate everything.

You always maintain ownership and control of your accounts. The custodian sends you statements directly, so you always have independent verification of your assets.

  • We help with all things retirement - both the technical and the human side.

On the financial side, we create your retirement plan, implement your investment strategy and paycheck strategy, guide you through Social Security claiming, healthcare options, and help ensure your estate plan is up-to-date.  We handle strategic tax planning and coordinate with your attorney and tax professional.

But retirement isn't just about money. We also help you navigate the life transitions - figuring out what you want to do with your time, maintaining your sense of purpose, strengthening relationships, and making decisions about where and how you want to live.

Really, if it affects your retirement, we help with it. Sometimes that's a complex tax strategy. Sometimes it's thinking through whether to move closer to grandkids. Sometimes it's just being a sounding board when you're facing uncertainty.

The point is you don't have to figure out retirement alone. We've helped hundreds of families navigate these same decisions, and we know the patterns that lead to great retirements versus just financially secure ones.

  • We view retirement planning as a means to create a life of meaning and amplify it. Planning isn't the goal - it's the tool that helps you feel comfortable and confident creating a great life in retirement.

Our guiding principle is elegant simplicity. The financial industry loves complexity, but we've found that the best retirement plans are the ones you can actually understand and live with. We avoid optimization rabbit holes in favor of strategies that work in real life.

We're process-oriented, focusing on four core steps: First, we help you create a clear vision for retirement. Second, we assess whether that vision is feasible with what you have. Third, we make it resilient so it can weather whatever life throws at you. And fourth, we walk with you to manage it as life unfolds.

The point isn't to have the perfect plan on paper. It's to have a plan that gives you the confidence to actually enjoy your retirement instead of worrying about it. Money should serve your life, not the other way around.

  • Retirement represents the transition from accumulating wealth to using wealth to create a great life. This major shift requires a completely different investment approach than what got you here.

We build portfolios to confidently fund your retirement vision, not to chase returns. Elegant simplicity guides everything - you should understand what you own and why you own it.

We use low-cost investments that focus on broad diversification - organic investments, not complex Twinkie-like investments that Wall Street loves to package and sell. If you can't explain it to your neighbor, you probably shouldn't own it.

Each portfolio is designed to give you confidence during two critical moments: when markets drop (and they will), you'll know you can weather the storm without changing your lifestyle. And over the long term, you'll have assets positioned to grow for your future self and legacy goals you may have.

We don't try to beat the market or time the market. We manage your investments, so the market's ups and downs don't derail your retirement plans. It's about creating reliability and peace of mind, not optimization.

The goal isn't to have the best performing portfolio - it's to have one that lets you sleep well at night and live well during the day.
